The 2016 Fall Conference is just around the corner and is shaping up to be another great success! The conference theme “Excellence in Educator Preparation: Purpose, Practices, and Promises” has generated proposals for informative and engaging presentations by university faculty, leaders from P-12 school district partners, and representatives of professional organizations from across the nation. We look forward to the informal conversations, exciting presentations, and panel discussions by our guest speakers.
Our opening session panel, At the Table or On the Menu: A National Conversation Between Teachers and Teacher Educators, will bring practicing teachers who are leaders of national organizations and deans of teacher education programs to open the discussion about the realities of teaching and preparation. Movements to reform schools, teaching, and teacher preparation have lead to new regulations, laws, organizations and agencies often without teachers and teacher educators at the table.
The Monday lunch session will continue this conversation with a panel consisting of stakeholders who are engaged in responding to legislative action mandating lab schools in North Carolina. The session titled, Tensions, Pitfalls, and Opportunities, will continue the focus on the realities of teacher preparation and school-university partnerships in the policy-making context that is occurring across the country while highlighting critical principles-in-action that can lead to success.
As has occurred in previous conferences, the culmination of what we have learned from each other, the commitments that have been made, and the professional energy that has been generated will be evident in the final day’s session with representatives driving the focus on the future of educator preparation.
